[Story]

Siegfried (or Mytho as anyone close to him would call him) had always been a sensible and artistic fellow, but even with all of his emotions back he was still a little reserved, quiet, and indifferent to his height in the social ladder. He would usually look away into the distance and explore the horizon with his golden orbs, taking in the beauty of the scenery around him as well as the wonderful and varied creatures that dwelled in it. In his curiosity to see it all he longed to capture the beauty of nature and Creation, and that was one of the reasons why he was drawn towards Photography. His best friend sent him his first camera (a Minolta) when he wasn't around to guide or support Mytho, hoping that with that, the fair-haired boy would find some consolation and peace.
In his free time, when he's away from the constant pressures of directing his Father's company, and when he's not in the real mood to dance, Mytho takes that precious camera and walks around town taking pictures of everything that picks his interest. He's particularly fond of small birds and already has a growing collection of photos of these intriguing creatures.
He hopes that when Fakir comes back he'll be able to show him all the pictures he's taken with the camera that he gave him.

[Hopefully I'll use this information and incorporate it in a possible future Tutu fanfic ^_^]

Well, this is my entry for the second contest that is currently being held at Club-Tutu :iconclub-tutu: and whose main theme now is "Modern Days" where the artist must show any odd number of characters living normal lives in 2008.

I was actually going to send 3 pictures for the contest: one showing Mytho, the other centered on Autor, and the final one with Fakir (I get inspired easily with the Tutu boys :aww: ). Sadly, these past weeks school consumed most of my free time so I was only able to pull this one off in time before the deadline (April 29). Even so, I'm glad I drew Mytho for a change since I'm not very fond of his character until way late into the second season of Princess Tutu.

I'm not very happy with a lot of things and the perspective issue still needs a little toning up so er, please don't mention it since I'm well aware of the flaws here.
Once more the scanner took its share on the picture and cropped a part of it. It was nothing truly relevant, just a little background but its importance to me was that it gave the picture a little more of depth and the perspective and angle of the bird and Mytho actually worked -_- *sigh*
I'll try working that out though the picture is too big for the scanner so I don't think it'll get any better than this without making the drawing to look blurry or completely butchering the colors >_< (I tried but without success).

Anyways, I hope the members of the Tutu faction enjoy my take on this character and hopefully I'll fnish the Autor and Fakir pictures as well (I'm actually willing to add Rue and Ahiru later on but just to complete the series :p. Strangely enough, I already planned a little of their background information or locations and I can see Mytho and Rue living back in Nurenberg, later moving out to Paris due to Rue's performances, Autor on a tour in England, dreaming to play at least once at the Royal Albert Hall, and Fakir and Ahiru in either Paris or London where they meet for the first time :3  ah... my Tutu love and inspiration is rising soooo much... hahaha XD )

Done with: Mostly pastels, color pencils, black marker, and pencil and took at least 3 hours for completion in 2 days.

Oh and I swear the "Sweeney Todd" song had nothing to do with this! (yeah right...)

Dislcaimer: Mytho does NOT belong to me. The Princess Tutu cast belongs to Ikuko Itoh and her team. Ende!

I'll say, this one is my personal favorite. You took the character the furthest out of his box from the PTT series, without breaking the character.
The inexplicable interest in birds-- He's the heir to a (business) empire -- a prince.
I love that. He is a modern Mytho.

And since you and one other entry asked for Advanced Critique, I'll give it here also.

You picked a very difficult piece to do as far as point of view. The tree leaves look good, and the bird an camera show an above average familiarity with the subjects. Very nicely done. As you already said, the perspective needs some work. I'd advise trying to find some reference images an revisiting this idea again later on. The pose is great conceptually. I think some differences you would see with an image to reference is that everything on the ground is going to move further away from the picture edges. Mytho's legs would probably barely be visible beneath his torso, and the tree trunk would be more fanned out, less defined towards the bottom. I like the shapes of the shadows-- nicely done. I can pick out which parts you used oil-pastels to color with like. Hard things to use well. Those areas look too thick and a bit messy, with no variance in the coloration. That's something that can be improved with practice and I might advise reading up on tecniques for coloring with oil pastels. You've got to use them a little differently than other coloring tools. On the tree trunk, something you may want to try out, it works for me, but not everyone, is to start with a light brown base color, nothing thickly applied, and then with two or more lighter and darker shades of brown, draw lines down the trunk in a random pattern to imitate bark. It makes for a reasonably believable effect.

^_^ It's really quite nice, and peaceful 8D I only have few issues with Mytho himself and the buildings in the background although the bird, as the subject besides Mytho, is quite nice 8D
You really put in detail, and I wish I had too, although I have mine to guess ^_^
What I like most here is the calm and peaceful atmosphere :3

Oh and I almost forgot, the linnet bird really is symbolic to me and it was what brought out Mytho's true kindness 8D Great job for the symbolism too <3
